My dryer's in the basement and the vent comes out low on the foundation wall. Is that a problem in winter?

It's the most common setup in Valley's older frame houses, and yes, it causes trouble. When the hood sits near grade, snow drifts against it, and mulch or landscape rock creeps up over it during the warm months. The dryer keeps running but the exhaust can't get out cleanly, so moist air backs up in the duct. In cold weather that moisture condenses on the pipe wall and the lint sticks to it instead of blowing free. That's the caking we scrape out of basement runs here more than anything else. Keeping the hood clear of drifts and pulled back from mulch helps, but once the duct is coated it needs to be cleaned mechanically.

How fast can you get out to Valley?

Usually within a few days. Valley is a small town and we're not booking dozens of jobs here in a week, so scheduling is generally flexible rather than tight. Acreages and the river-lake places take a little longer on the drive, so we try to group those or put them earlier in the day. If your dryer has stopped drying entirely and you're running loads twice, say so when you call and we'll work you in sooner.

Why does my exterior hood plug up so fast out by the river?

Open ground and sandy soil, plus whatever the field and gravel roads kick up, end up on the outside of the hood. Add cottonwood seed off the Platte bottoms in early summer and the flap and screen area loads up quickly. Lint blowing out from the inside grabs onto that and mats. Homes on acreages and near the lakes almost always show heavier exterior buildup than a house in the older core, even when the interior duct is in similar shape. Walk out and look at the hood a couple times a year.

What does a dryer vent cleaning here run?

It depends mostly on where the dryer sits. A basement dryer in one of the older one-and-a-half story houses with a short climb to the rim joist is the simpler job. The two-story homes on the north and east sides with laundry upstairs and a run going up through the wall to a roof cap take longer, need roof access, and land higher. Acreage properties with a long or added-onto run can also add time. We'd rather look at your setup and tell you where it falls than guess over the phone.

Can you do it the same day I call?

Sometimes, though it's not something to count on. If we already have a Valley or west Douglas County stop on the schedule and there's room, we can often add you. Roof-vented upstairs laundry rooms are harder to squeeze in last minute since weather and daylight matter for getting on the roof. Basement and foundation-wall jobs are easier to fit into a gap.
